767 5th Avenue @ 59th Street

This classic toy shop, named after its founder, Frederick August Otto Schwarz, traces its origins to Baltimore in 1863, where Schwarz first had a toy store. By 1870, Schwarz realized he belonged in the big city and moved, store and all, to New York, where he set up the “Schwarz Toy Bazaar” at 765 Broadway. The store moved to 745 5th Avenue in 1931, and across the street to its present location in 1986. FAO owes its fame in part to appearances in several movies, including Big
