Yankee Stadium was built in 1923 to be the best ballpark in the world for the best baseball team in the world (New Yorkers have never been short on pride or chutzpah). With 67,224 seats (although renovations have reduced it to 57,545 seats) and a triple deck, it was also the first ballpark large enough to be known officially as a “stadium,” although people usually referred to it as “The House that Ruth Built.”
