Originally opened in 1937, Gleason’s Gym has always been central to boxing in New York. More than 100 world champion boxers have trained here, including Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Mike Tyson (who was born in Brooklyn). New York has produced a number of other great boxers over the years, including Rocky Graziano, Jake La Motta (the subject of the film Raging Bull), and Floyd Patterson—all well–known faces at Gleason’s.
