Belmont Stakes

Emont, NY

One of the most important events in the horse racing world, the Belmont Stakes is the third and final race of the Triple Crown, consisting of a desperate one–and–a–half mile sprint around the Belmont track.. Secretariat completed the Triple Crown at Belmont in 1973, and he still holds the track’s recod by two seconds. When the Belmont Stakes race was established in 1867 the course was in Jerome Park in the Bronx. In 1905 the race was moved to Belmont Park in Long Island, just outside the city, but it still remains a quintessentially New York event.
