3 - American International Building

70 Pine Street
Architect: Clinton & Russell
Date Constructed: 1932
3rd tallest in NYC, 33rd tallest in the world (as of 2004)
Height: 952 ft (290 m) including spire; 67 floors.

One of the last skyscrapers built in the real estate boom just before the Great Depression, the American International Building is the third tallest building in New York in this first decade of the 21st century. The tower is built in an attractive Art Deco style, and small spires in the upper sections accent the verticality of the peak. Located on Pine Street, just north of Wall Street, it’s almost lost among the other behemoths of Lower Manhattan. (Although it would rule the skyline in any other city.) The best views of the building are from the East Side of Manhattan, particularly from the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
