Peace Garden
Location: 46th Street and 1st Avenue, Manhattan
The United Nations Peace Garden, located on a plaza just north of the Secretariat Building, showcases peace–oriented sculptures that were gifts from various nations. The best–known pieces include the Japanese Peace Bell (cast from coins of sixty different countries) and the sculpture Let Us Beat Swords into Plowshares, a 1959 gift from the Soviet Union. The small garden of roses and other flowers add their own compelling arguments for peaceful relations, both between countries and between man and his environment.
