The Rose Center for Earth and Space
At the American Museum of Natural History
Officially the “Frederick Phineas & Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space,”
this recent addition to the Natural History Museum is surely one of the most eye–catching
structures in the city. Giant scale models of our solar system’s planets hang suspended in
a transparent box composed of an acre of glass. Ramps carry visitors past presentations
that range from telescopic views of galaxies to microscopic views of atoms. In the middle
of it all is a vast sphere that houses the new Hayden Planetarium, adored by astronomers
of all ages.
