Museum of the City of New York
1220 5th Avenue @ 103 Street
Established in 1923, the Museum of the City of New York has a wonderful collection of prints and photographs from some of the most important photographers in the city’s history, including Jacob Riis and Berenice Abbot. The collection also includes more unusual New York artifacts, such as toys, decorative art pieces, and theater costumes. Although the museum cannot hope to capture or represent all of New York City, it does help to record and capture fascinating bits of the city’s life and culture.
