Intrepid Sea–Air Space Museum
Pier 86 @ 46th Street
Now anchored in the Hudson River, the U.S.S. Intrepid was launched in 1942 with more than one hundred aircraft and three thousand men, and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. It became a museum in 1982 with the help of philanthropist Zachary Fisher. It now houses numerous war planes, encompassing American military history from WWII to the present; one of the recent acquisitions is a rare SR–71 Blackbird reconnaissance airplane.
