International Center of Photography
1133 6th Avenue @ 43rd Street
Organized by the famous war photographer Cornell Capa in 1974, the International Center of Photography is one of the only institutions in the world that has tried to amass a comprehensive photojournalism archive. It does for photography what museums and endowments have always done for painting, by sponsoring individual photographers, displaying their work to the public, organizing classes and lectures, and helping photographers throughout the world to communicate and develop together. This institution is particularly appropriate for New York City, which has been a center for fashion and artistic photography during the past century.
