Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch

Grand Army Plaza @ Prospect Park, Brooklyn
John Duncan, 1892

The full name of this well–known feature of the Brooklyn landscape is the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch. It was built in memory of those who died in the Civil War, in the style of Paris’ Arc de Triomphe. The arch features a giant bronze chariot mounted on top of an 80–foot–tall limestone arch built in the style of the Arc de Triomphe.
