Bethesda Fountain

Central Park @ Central Park Lake
Emma Stebbins, 1868

Also known as Angel of the Waters after the sculpted angel in its center, Bethesda Fountain is the centerpiece to a beautiful European–style pedestrian plaza on the south side of Central Park Lake. It’s the endpoint to Central Park’s Literary Walk (a broad arcade with sculptures of famous literary figures) and is located just north of the Central Park Bandshell. In the summer the plaza is always crowded with people strolling, picnicking, or sitting and relaxing on the lip of the fountain.
