Pieter Claeson Wyckoff House

Clarendon Road @ Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn
Architect: Unknown Architect
Date Constructed: 1652

The Dutch were the original settlers of New York (calling it New Amsterdam), and from 1614 to 1667 the Dutch East India Company controlled the colony. Few buildings are left from that era, and the Pieter Claeson Wyckoff House in Brooklyn is perhaps the best–preserved example. Pieter Claeson, who emigrated from the Netherlands to New Amsterdam in 1637 as an indentured servant, built the original structure in 1652. It is the oldest structure in New York City and one of the oldest wood–framed buildings in the country.
