Daily News Building
220 E. 42nd Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues
Architect: Hood & Howells
Date Constructed: 1930
In the early 20th century, the New York Daily News had the largest circulation of any newspaper in the U.S., and this building was intended to be a monument to the newspaper, housing both editorial offices and printing presses. The lobby is famous for the twelve–foot revolving globe in its center, reconstructed in the movie Citizen Kane, which represents the newspaper’s global perspective.
