City Hall
Broadway @ City Hall Park
Architect: Mangin and McComb
Date Constructed: 1811
This small, dignified building, designed in the Federal style with French Renaissance–styled details, has been the official seat of New York City’s government since 1811. When it was built it was one of the most imposing buildings in the city; its marble exterior and columns helped it stand out among the surrounding wooden buildings, and its four–story cupola and dome offered views of the surrounding countryside. The interior was restored by Grosvenor Atterbury between 1907 and 1918.
