Chanin Building
122 E. 42nd Street @ Lexington Avenue
Architect: Sloan and Robertson
Date Constructed: 1929
One of New York’s earliest slab skyscrapers, the Chanin building is fifty–six stories high with detailed ornamentation that includes terra cotta bas–relief and bronze friezes at the street level. The lobby is also exquisitely detailed, with bronze screens, jeweled clocks, and other relics of the Roaring Twenties. The unique crown of the building makes a beautiful addition to the skyline.
