New York City Marathon

Early November
From the Verrazano Bridge to Central Park

In 1970 the New York Road Runners Club hosted the first New York Marathon, which was run entirely in Central Park. It proved to be so popular that in 1976 the city and the Road Runners Club cooperated to set a course that would take runners through all five boroughs. The starting line was at the Staten Island end of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the finish line was in Central Park, virtually the same course used today. The New York Marathon is now one of the largest marathons in the world, annually hosting about 30,000 runners and two million spectators.
