Feast of San Gennaro
Mid–September
Mulberry Street from Canal to Houston Streets
This festa is New York’s way of saying goodbye to the summer, and there’s always enough hearty Italian food going around to fatten folks up for the long winter ahead. The New York version of this festival has taken place every year since immigrants from southern Italy first organized it in 1926. San Gennaro (Saint Jenuarius in English) is the patron saint of Naples, and a statue of the saint presides over the week–and–a–half of eating, drinking, and celebrating.
