Streisand, Barbra

Born 1942

A native Brooklynite, Barbra Streisand fell in love with acting at an early age, and as a teenager she was accepted into an apprenticeship program at the Cherry Lane Theater in Manhattan (purely on the basis of her enthusiasm; her coach said her acting was “the worst he’d ever seen.”) Her hard work paid off and over the next few years she became world renowned, gracing nightclubs with her buttery voice and acting on stage and screen. “I am simple, complex, generous, selfish, unattractive, beautiful, lazy, and driven,” she once explained to a reporter.
