Dylan, Bob
Born 1941
Born Robert Zimmerman, singer/songwriter Bob Dylan grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, steeping himself in American folk and country music. He arrived in Greenwich Village in 1961, where he became an icon and hero for the burgeoning folk scene. In 1962 he changed his name to Dylan in honor of the poet Dylan Thomas. Due to his famous protest songs (Blowin’ in the Wind, Like a Rolling Stone) he became known as a counterculture icon; much of his music, however, comes deep from the heart of American folk traditions.
