Dancing
Whether it’s discos in the 70s or mega–clubs in the 90s, New York City has always been home to the latest in party life. “On with dance, let joy be unconfined, is my motto; whether there’s any dance to dance or any joy to be unconfined,” declared Mark Twain. James Brown put it more simply: “Any problem in the world,” he said, “can be solved by dancing.” New York’s central role in popular culture of dance clubs & culture was especially notable during the 1970s, with movies like Saturday Night Fever and the infamous decadence of Studio 54.
