Queensboro Bridge
Total Length, including approaches: 7,450 ft (2,272 m)
Manhattan to Queens
Built in 1909, the Queensboro Bridge connects 59th Street in Manhattan with Long Island City in Queens, passing completely over Roosevelt Island in the process. Unlike the previous Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, the Queensboro Bridge is a cantilevered bridge, and this gives it a bulky, geometric appearance. It was designed by Gustav Lindenthal with decorative ironwork by Henry Hornbostel.
