Manhattan Bridge
Main span: 1,470 ft (462.3 m)
Manhattan to Brooklyn
This two–level steel bridge designed by Leon Moiseff was built in 1909. The bridge goes from Canal Street in Manhattan to Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn; the entrance at Canal Street features a grand arch and colonnades. The bridge structure is a symphony of riveted steel, from the smoothly curved bases to the inexplicable round finials on top of the main arches. The ornamental details were an attempt to apply older decorative styles to the relatively novel exposed–metal design.
